Our relation with tiles is as old as the civilization itself and we, humans practice the art of making tiles circa, 1800 BC! Well, lets move on to the present and look at the uses of tiles. It is known fact that tiles are long lasting, and they have their own set of goodies to offer as well. Tiles cut down on dust production, help keep your home free of irritants like mites and their ilk and the most important part of tiles is that they are incredibly easy to clean. The first and foremost fact regarding tile maintenance is that you must use products that are designed exclusively for use on stone and ceramic tiles. It is not at all good to apply sealer to glazed tiles as it will come off in sheets.

If you encounter a stubborn stain during your tile maintenance routine, you can very well use a stain remover, which comes as a dry powder and that needs to be mixed with water to form a paste. The procedure for using the stain remover is simple, just cover the stain with paste and place plastic over the area of application and leave the paste in place for period of 24 to 48 hours and lo, the stain will come off as you remove the paste. While thinking about tile maintenance and tile cleaning, you cannot help, but be worried about the removal of ink and rust stains and guess what the way out? A full strength hydrogen peroxide does a good job in dealing with stubborn stains, hands down!

Trisodium phosphate (TSP) is a fine accessory in removing stains caused by oil and grease and TSP is available in liquid and water-soluble powder forms and care should be taken to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations closely as TSP is a powerful chemical. One of the hardest parts of tile maintenance is the cleaning of grouts or the mortar found between the individual tiles and grout cleaning is a must and proper maintenance of grout can be done with the help of professionals.
